  • Overview

    The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in LTAC provides age-appropriate services for adult to geriatric patients, under the direction and supervision of the Physical Therapist. The PTA assists in carrying out the treatment plan to individuals and groups as designed by the Physical Therapist, supervises treatment delivered by the PTA student or technician, provides patient/family instruction, participates in PI programs and documents services according to hospital and department policies and procedures. This position involves direct patient care.

    Additional Details

    • Utilizes equipment in a proper and safe manner, reports broken or faulty equipment
    • Follows medical regimen developed for the patient, aw are of and adheres to precautions (THR, TKR, Cardiac, W ound, etc.).
    • Utilizes safe treatment techniques including the follow ing: transfers, positioning, feeding, splinting, paraffin bath, cryotherapy, etc.
    • Utilizes treatment approaches according to established PT protocols and policies.
    • Utilizes alternatives or other innovative approaches as needed.
    • Documents on the ID progress notes daily
    • Documents daily units of treatment on the charge sheet.
    • Serves as a member of the Performance Improvement team.
    • Actively participates in Department Team meetings
    • Participates in w eekend and holiday rotation as needed.
    • Participates in student supervision as indicated.
    • Assists in the interview process for new therapy department employees as needed
    • Any other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Formal Education: Associates
    Experience: Less than 6 months
    License, Registration, and / or Certification Requirement: Yes
    Education Requirements
    • Graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapist Assistant and successful completion of the National Registry exam.
    • Recent graduates who have applied for the registration exam may be considered for provisional appointment.
    License Requirements
    • Current Physical Therapist Assistant license in state of practice
    License Desired
    • Membership or certification in national association (as applicable).
    Skill Requirements
    • Must be willing to accept all other duties as assigned.
